SCLEROTHERAPY  is used to treat both varicose and spider veins.  A tiny needle is used to inject the veins with a solution that irritates the lining of the vein causing the  veins  to collapse. The veins are reabsorbed naturally by your body. The surface veins are no longer visible.   You can normally return to your daily activities immediately after treatments. Medically prescribed support hose and/or bandages may need to be worn for a few days after the procedures. The procedure, performed in the doctor's office, usually causes only minimal discomfort. Bruising and pigmentation or dark spots may occur after sclerotherapy.  These will typically disappear in a few weeks.  Scarring and other  complications are rare.  Any problems are less likely if you remain very active after the procedures.

ULTRASOUND GUIDED SCLEROTHERAPY  is an in-office treatment alternative to surgical stripping and is often used for veins that can not be treated with EVLT. Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy is done with either a liquid or "foamed" sclerosant, while the doctor visually monitors the injection  on an ultrasound screen. This enables treatment of veins that can't be seen because they are below the surface of the skin.

Before and After Sclerotherapy treatments

Vein Treatment Specialists, P.C. also utilizes the cutting edge technology of the VeinViewer by Luminetx™  to assist with precise sclerotherapy.

The VeinViewer by Luminetx™ uses a combination of near-infrared light and patented technologies to image vascular structures, allowing physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to clearly see veins in real time. Often times veins fairly near the surface, but not visible from the surface, are easily seen with the VeinViewer.  These veins are easily injected with a sclerosant, and may eliminate the need for injecting smaller surface veins.
